On the 5th of September 2024, the Sefora Ntombela Foundation hosted an impactful Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Seminar at Falesizwe Hall in Frankfort. In partnership with the Department of Social Development Free State, and proudly sponsored by Standard Bank and Six Star Milling, the event was a resounding success. It served as a powerful platform for raising awareness, empowering women, and fostering a united stand against GBV.

The event brought together women from all walks of life, community leaders, social activists, and officials, all sharing a common goal: to address the pressing issue of gender-based violence and uplift the women of Frankfort and beyond. The seminar was not just an educational session but a movement, focused on offering practical solutions, healing, and spiritual support.

A Day of Empowerment and Reflection

The seminar kicked off with an inspiring keynote speech delivered by leaders of the Sefora Ntombela Foundation, who shared their vision for a society free from the scourge of gender-based violence. Discussions centered on the current challenges faced by women, particularly in the Free State, and highlighted strategies for empowerment. Experts from the Department of Social Development shared valuable insights on available support systems, legal frameworks, and how women can access help.

A standout moment in the seminar was the prayer session, which united everyone in a moment of deep reflection and hope. The session, led by women of faith, underscored the importance of spiritual resilience in overcoming adversity. It served as a beacon of light for those who have suffered in silence and reminded everyone that healing is possible, both physically and emotionally.

Standing Together Against GBV

As gender-based violence continues to plague communities, this event showcased the power of unity in combatting it. Attendees were encouraged to become ambassadors of change, spreading the message of zero tolerance for violence against women and children. The partnership with the Department of Social Development proved invaluable, as it allowed attendees to gain access to essential resources and knowledge to aid in the fight against GBV.

Sponsorship and Support

The seminar was made possible by the generous support of Standard Bank and Six Star Milling. Their contributions went beyond financial aid—they represent a commitment to uplifting communities and advancing the cause of women’s empowerment. Both companies have been long-time supporters of initiatives aimed at improving the lives of vulnerable groups, and their involvement in this seminar reaffirmed their dedication to social development.

A Call to Action

The Sefora Ntombela Foundation believes that the fight against GBV is not just a one-day event but a continuous journey that requires the involvement of all community members. Women left the event feeling more informed, empowered, and ready to take a stand. The Foundation encourages everyone to participate in future events, continue these crucial conversations, and contribute to a safer and more equal society.

Through the collaboration of government, businesses, and civil society, the dream of eradicating gender-based violence is possible. The seminar served as a reminder that together, we can build a future where every woman and child feels safe and empowered.
